Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Transport (DfT) is initiating a public procurement process titled "Traffic Management System & Short Straits Traffic Digital Twins," classified under the IT services industry. The procurement process is currently in the planning and tender stages with an active status and is organised through a restricted procedure. The submission deadline for the Request for Information (RFI) is set for 16:00 on 6 December 2024. Post-submission, DfT will conduct a review and invite respondents to a supplier day on 13 January 2025 at their offices in Great Minster House, London. This RFI seeks information to support two projects: the development of a Short Straits Traffic Digital Twin and the prototype of an agile traffic management system for HGVs in Kent. Suppliers can submit their interest electronically or in writing.

This tender offers a significant opportunity for IT consultancy firms and software development businesses, particularly those experienced with digital twin technologies and traffic management systems. Companies specialising in agile project delivery and capable of developing prototypes will find this to be a promising project. The categorisation of the procurement under IT services ensures that businesses well-versed in consulting, software development, and internet support will be particularly competitive. The opportunities for business growth are substantial, given the national scope and the potential technological advancements associated with these projects.
