Summary of the contracting process

The framework agreement for the supply of smoke alarms and associated products for 2025-29, led by the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority, has resulted in active contracts. The procurement utilized an open procedure under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 to secure goods, including smoke alarms, heat alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and smart home technology. The contracts cover all UK fire and rescue services, with the agreement allowing direct orders and a mini-competition for smart home technology. The awards were completed on 8th May 2025. The procurement was categorized under the 'goods' industry, focusing on smoke-detection apparatus, impacting a national scale from the headquarters in Birmingham, UK.

This tender provides significant opportunities for suppliers within the safety technology and smart home sectors to expand by supplying to a nationwide network of fire and rescue services. Companies specializing in manufacturing smoke detection systems and related technologies, especially those incorporating smart home innovations, would greatly benefit from participating in this framework. The presence of SMEs among the winning suppliers underscores the suitability for small and medium enterprises to compete, provided they can meet the mandatory requirements such as insurance thresholds and product standards. This framework opens avenues for sustained business growth through direct supply and potentially innovative smart technology solutions.
