Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process outlined involves the Department for the Economy (DfE) and North West Regional College (NWRC) in Northern Ireland overseeing the supply and delivery of Specialist Grocery Items for various Further Education and Higher Education colleges in the region. This open procedure contract, titled "Supply and Delivery of Specialist Grocery Items for N.I. FE/HE Colleges," is designated under the CPV code for food, beverages, tobacco, and related products. The process is currently in the award stage as of June 2025, with the contract having commenced on this date. The procurement is divided into five geographical lots, catering to colleges like Belfast Metropolitan, Northern Regional, and South West Colleges, each with their unique catchment area and service needs. Contracts for some lots have been awarded, while others are either unsuccessful or cancelled.

This tender presents growth opportunities for businesses involved in the supply of specialist grocery items, particularly those familiar with educational settings or who have a strong supply chain and quality assurance systems. While the selected supplier for multiple lots is Henderson Foodservice Ltd, other businesses can find prospects in future extensions or other regional lots. Through long-term agreements and optional extensions, successful suppliers can secure stable, significant revenue streams while being part of transformative educational services that further the economic diversifications of the area. Suppliers adept at managing logistics and understanding sector-specific requirements of colleges will be well-positioned to compete effectively in this procurement landscape.
