Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence, through its Interim 155 Capability Team, has recently completed the award of a contract titled "Archer Artillery System Short Term (9 months) In-Service Support Contract" to BAE Systems Bofors AB. The contract, valued at £4.8 million, aims to provide repair and maintenance services under the classification "Repair and maintenance services of weapons and weapon systems" (CPV code: 50840000). This contract, spanning a period of nine months, commenced in November 2025 and focuses on providing technical design, configuring the Archer Artillery System, and offering training, maintenance, and obsolescence management. The procurement method was limited and did not involve the prior publication of a call for competition due to the technical nature and lack of competition. The services will be executed primarily in the UK.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in defence systems support, particularly those with expertise in specialised weapons systems such as the Archer Artillery System. BAE Systems Bofors AB was awarded this contract due to their unique capabilities, expertise, and proprietary information pertaining to the system. Businesses aspiring to engage with similar government contracts might consider building competencies in proprietary defence technologies and cultivating relationships with defence authorities. Companies with the ability to collaborate or subcontract in the niche field of artillery system support can find growth by complementing the existing expertise and technology of established players like BAE Systems.
