Summary of the contracting process

Kidlington Parish Council has initiated a tender process to develop a new play area at Park Hill Recreation Ground. This project falls under the 'works' category and aims to replace the outdated play facilities with a modern and accessible play area catering mainly to children aged 2-8 years. The council, located in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, seeks a qualified contractor capable of delivering a creative and safe play environment. The tender process is currently in the active stage, with submissions open until 28th April 2025. The estimated contract value is £144,000, and the project is scheduled to commence on 1st May 2025, concluding on 1st May 2026.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for companies specialising in playground equipment design, landscaping, and construction. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to apply. Businesses with experience in creating accessible, durable, and engaging play spaces will find this project suits their expertise. The contractor must ensure the design includes new gates, pathways, and equipment while maintaining some existing structures. Attention to maintenance and long-term sustainability will be a crucial evaluation criterion, making this tender ideal for companies that offer comprehensive installation and aftercare services.

Notice Title

Kidlington Parish Council Play Area Development

Notice Description

Kidlington Parish Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced contractor to design and deliver a play area to replace the existing facility at Park Hill Recreation Ground. The Recreation Ground is a large open space with good parking and generally used for walking, gardening (planting plots adjacent to play area) and recreational sports on the multi-use games area. The play area itself is dated and poorly designed, which requires all the existing equipment to be removed and disposed of, replaced with a new and exciting space that caters mainly for 2-8-year-olds. The existing footprint should be maintained, with the fencing remaining, however new gates, pathways, equipment and surfacing to be designed into the area. This is to ensure the site is accessible all year round, and equipment is connected using surfacing, while retaining some of the natural turf to soften the design. Maintenance is a key aspect for the Council who manage multiple play areas, and suppliers should consider this when selecting equipment.
