Summary of the contracting process

NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board has awarded a contract for the urgent provision of community endoscopy services. The procurement falls under the industry category of community health services (CPV 85323000) and aims to ensure continuity of service and patient safety within the Mid and South Essex region (UKH3). The contract spans from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2026, with the award decision made to address immediate risks to patient safety due to increased waiting times. This contract was awarded without prior publication under the Provider Selection Regime regulations due to its urgent nature. Key decision makers in the process were the NHS Mid and South Essex ICB Executive Team, and no conflicts of interest were identified. The contract is valued at £3,285,527 for the planning year 2024-2025, subject to adjustments for 2025-2026.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialised in healthcare services, particularly those capable of providing diagnostic and treatment endoscopy services. The contract requires endoscopic procedures such as gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, catering to non-urgent cases including dyspepsia, reflux, and abdominal pain. SMEs with experience in delivering high-quality, community-based healthcare services are well-suited to compete for this contract, which underscores the importance of addressing patient safety and service continuity. As the current contract expires on 31st March 2025, there’s an immediate need for capable providers to step in, ensuring uninterrupted patient care and supporting NHS objectives in maintaining high standards of service delivery.
