Summary of the contracting process

NHS England North West (Greater Manchester) is set to award a contract for the Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and Glossop Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Service. This procurement falls under the health and social work services industry category, and it involves the provision of a population-based screening programme aimed at reducing AAA-related mortality. The procurement method used is a direct award process under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, with no prior call for competition. The contract, valued at £2,376,360, will commence on 1st April 2025 and conclude on 31st March 2028. This decision has been made by the Greater Manchester Screening Immunisation Contracting Commissioning and Finance Group on behalf of NHS England (Greater Manchester), with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust serving as the supplier.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses operating within the healthcare sector, particularly those specialising in health screening and preventive services. Existing service providers, such as large healthcare organisations with a proven track record, stand a good chance of competing successfully due to the direct award process which favours established partnerships. Smaller businesses may benefit by forming collaborative partnerships or subcontracts with the main contractor. This initiative not only facilitates business expansion into public healthcare but also promotes increased visibility and engagement in large-scale health projects.
