Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process led by NHS Tayside involved a contract for the replacement and installation of a radiotherapy linear accelerator at the Tayside Cancer Centre, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. The project, which falls under the industry category of radiotherapy and physical therapy devices (CPV: 33150000), was conducted using an open procedure. Originally valued at £2,750,000 for a 24-month duration, the tender went through its active stage as of 20th March 2025, with a deadline for submissions set for 1st May 2025. NHS Tayside, the buying organisation, has been working within the Scottish Government's Radiotherapy Capital Equipment Replacement Programme (CERP) to ensure the timely replacement of equipment that has reached the end of its recommended life-expectancy.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialised in medical equipment, particularly those with expertise in radiotherapy devices and installation services. Companies acting as Prime Contractors will need to provide comprehensive services, taking full responsibility for the supply and implementation of the new equipment. The procurement favours contractors with a robust economic track record and suitable insurance cover, fitting for large-scale medical equipment suppliers. Additionally, this project includes community benefits, which require businesses to either engage with the NHS Scotland’s Community Benefits Gateway or demonstrate their recent impacts within Scotland, offering further opportunities for community engagement and development.
