Summary of the contracting process

The Environment Agency, headquartered at Seacole Building in London, has finalised the procurement process for providing essential site, plant, and equipment training across multiple lots. The training covers various areas such as confined spaces, health and safety, and site management to ensure their workforce is adequately skilled to handle environmental incidents and manage flood and coastal assets. This comprehensive set of training contracts was awarded on 15 January 2026, with the procurement journey moving through the tender and award stages, concluding with INTERTRAIN UK LTD. securing the contract for lots 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. The procurement employed an open, competitive flexible procedure under the legal basis of UK legislation and is expected to run from January 2026 through November 2028, with potential renewals extending the contract up to 2030.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for businesses involved in specialist training services, particularly those with capabilities in technical and safety training. Small and medium enterprises, such as those in the training sector, stand to gain significantly from engaging in such contracts, as demonstrated by INTERTRAIN UK's successful bid. The contract promises not only financial return but also the chance to contribute to a crucial national cause—enhancing environmental responsiveness and safety. Organisations capable of delivering accredited and specialised training services that meet the standards outlined by the Environment Agency can utilise this contract as a platform to expand their footprint within the public sector, thus driving their business growth.
