Summary of the contracting process

Medway Council is currently in the planning stage for the recommissioning of residential and nursing care services for older people aged 65 and over. This procurement process falls under the health and social work services category and is scheduled to take place in Chatham, Kent. The council will hold a market engagement event on 29th April 2025 to discuss commissioning intentions and gather feedback from local providers. Interested participants must register by 1:00 pm, 28th April 2025. The engagement event aims to shape the future contract for delivering adult social care support, with the contract period set from 1st April 2026 to 1st April 2034.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in residential and nursing care services. Providers that can deliver high-quality, 24-hour care and support for older people, including personal care and medical support from qualified nurses, are well-suited to bid for this contract. The long-term nature of the contract offers stable growth potential for established care providers and those looking to expand within the adult social care sector. Engaging in the early discussions through the market engagement event allows businesses to influence future service delivery and align their offerings with Medway Council's requirements.

Notice Title

Provision of Residential and Nursing Care for Older People

Notice Description

Medway Council is seeking to recommission Residential and Nursing Care for people aged 65 years and over. The Care Act requires local authorities to provide high quality care and support services to help vulnerable people to live their day-to-day life. Medway Council typically does this by commissioning suitably registered care providers to deliver this on its behalf to residents who meet the eligibility criteria. A residential care home provides accommodation and 24-hour personal care and support to people who find it difficult to manage activities of daily living at home. Residential care homes provide residents with a safe place where they are looked after according to their needs. This typically includes help with washing, dressing, toileting, administering medication and mobility. The purpose of a residential care home is to ensure people who cannot live independently are well looked after and continue to lead meaningful lives. In addition to the services offered at a residential care home, a nursing care home will provide 24-hour care and support to residents to help with daily living, personal care, mobility, plus additional support from a qualified nurse to support with more complex conditions and medical needs.
