This tender represents an opportunity for academic institutions, particularly those specialising in research and development consultancy services, to expand their expertise and influence in veterinary research, specifically in pestivirus studies affecting sheep and goats. The project not only provides a platform to explore innovative approaches in infectious disease control within multi-species farm systems but also facilitates collaboration with government entities. Such partnerships can significantly enhance visibility and credibility within the public sector, ideally suiting research-focused institutions with capabilities in epidemiology and veterinary science.

Notice Title

Studentship: Understanding the role of sheep & goat in pestiviruses

Notice Description

Several newly emerged pestivirus species were introduced into cattle and pigs as well as wild ruminant populations during the last decades. These new pestiviruses are associated with abortion, still birth, health problems of offspring. Emerging pestivirus diseases frequently challenge prevention and control strategies in the swine and cattle industry. This PhD proposal will explore pestiviruses in sheep and goat in the UK and its transmission between different animal host species in a multispecies grazing farm system.
