Summary of the contracting process

NHS England is conducting a market engagement exercise for the provision of specialised paediatric whole-body MRI surveillance services related to cancer predisposing syndromes. This initiative is classified under health services and targets providers across the UK. Currently in the planning stage, the procurement seeks to gather insights into potential suppliers’ capacity and capability. Prospective providers are invited to participate by completing a questionnaire available on the Atamis (Health Family) portal, with submissions due by 12pm on Monday, 4th August 2025. The process aims to inform the Commissioner’s approach to service commissioning, with the possibility of a contract lasting three years, extendable up to five years.

This tender presents potential growth opportunities for healthcare providers specialising in paediatric diagnostics and MRI technologies. Businesses with expertise in genetic cancer syndromes, particularly Li-Fraumeni syndrome, constitutional mismatch repair deficiency syndrome, and rhabdoid tumour predisposition syndrome, are particularly well-suited for this tender. Engaging in this procurement process enables companies to showcase their capabilities and contribute to advancing clinical care for individuals diagnosed with inherited cancer predispositions. It offers a chance to establish a partnership with NHS England, a prominent public health organisation, thereby expanding market presence and influence in paediatric healthcare services.

Lot Information

Lot 1

NHS England would like to identify providers who are interested in the provision of Specialised Paediatric whole-body MRI (WBMRI) Surveillance for Cancer Predisposing Syndromes.

The key objective of this market engagement process is to obtain relevant feedback and information from the market to understand the level of capability, capacity, competition and will help inform the commissioning strategy in relation to these Services.

Inherited cancer predisposition syndromes are genetic conditions that increase the risk of developing one or more types of cancer. This service will focus on three rare inherited cancer predisposition syndromes; Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), constitutional mismatch repair deficiency syndrome (CMMRD) and rhabdoid tumour predisposition syndrome (RTPS). Published clinical guidelines for these conditions recommend the use of regular whole-body MRI (WBMRI) with the aim of detecting cancers at an early stage.

The overall aim of MRI surveillance for children with cancer predisposing syndromes is to provide WBMRI screening for patients with LFS, CMMRD and RTPS. The provision of expanded capacity for WBMRI scanning aims to improve clinical care of individuals once an inherited cancer predisposition has been diagnosed.

The anticipated contract duration for this service is 3 years, with the Commissioner having the option to extend the contract up to a further 2 years (maximum contract duration 5 years).
