Summary of the contracting process

The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, United Kingdom, has successfully concluded a procurement process for the project titled "Expansion of ADCP Fleet" within the industry category of surveying, hydrographic, oceanographic, and hydrological instruments. This procurement falls under a direct method, completed without competition, due to being below threshold. The contract, valued at £146,880.28, began on 7th August 2025 and is set to end on 5th September 2025. The awarded supplier is Saderet Limited, located in the Isle of Man, highlighting the strategic focus of the centre on enhancing its hydrodynamic data collection capabilities essential for multiple ocean circulation projects.

This contract offers substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in oceanographic equipment and related technologies. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) equipped with the expertise and capability to supply advanced oceanographic instruments could leverage similar future procurement opportunities. Companies that can innovate within the framework of existing technology platforms may find strong alignment with the requirements typical of National Oceanography Centre tenders, which involve integrating new devices with established systems to ensure compatibility and reliability.

Notice Title

Expansion of ADCP Fleet

Notice Description

Procurement of additional RDI ADCP'S Sentinal MKii into existing infrastructure. 2x new 600khz , 2x new 300khz to improve the accuracy, efficiency and range of hydrodynamic data collection in support of multiple ocean circulation projects. Used for a detailed picture of currents and known to be reliable in their operation. The majority of our deployed ADCP infrastructure, both vessel-based and moored, is based on RDI systems. This has led to significant investment over time in support infrastructure, data acquisition systems, software compatibility, and internal expertise, all optimised around RDI platforms. Several projects next year require ADCPs in which an aging & limited stock is a risk to fulfilling the cruise program.
