Summary of the contracting process

The Open University (OU), a public authority in Milton Keynes, UK, has engaged in a procurement process seeking technology partners to support its IT and virtual learning environments. The tender is divided into two lots: "Run and Maintain," which focuses on IT infrastructure stability, and "Moodle Specialist," aimed at supporting the Virtual Learning Environment. The procurement process followed a competitive flexible procedure, comprising three stages. Infosys Limited was awarded the contract for Lot 1, while NashTech Limited secured Lot 2, with both contracts starting in 2026 and having potential ten-year terms, including extensions. The significant investment involved is up to £100 million for Lot 1 and £10 million for Lot 2 over the possible duration.

This procurement represents a substantial opportunity for businesses in the technology and IT services sectors, particularly those capable of providing robust technical consultancy and support services. Large-scale businesses with experience in managing IT infrastructure or specialising in educational technology solutions, especially those with insights into Moodle, are well-positioned to engage in similar tenders. The structured competitive process indicates a focus on quality and pricing, welcoming experienced firms ready to demonstrate superior service management, technical acumen, and the ability to foster strong partnerships with educational institutions.
