Summary of the contracting process

The Centre for Process Innovation Limited, a public undertaking based in Redcar, UK, is currently in the tender stage for the procurement of a high-resolution mass spectrometer. This procurement is specifically tailored for applications in cancer biomarker research, being part of the next-generation diagnostic programme at CPI Biologics, Darlington. The tender, identified with the title "Supply of A high resolution mass spectrometer," focuses on the laboratory, optical, and precision equipment category. The procurement is conducted through an open procedure, with a submission deadline set for 12 noon on 3rd February 2026. The contract award period is expected to conclude on 10th March 2026, forming a single supplier framework agreement without the need for reopening competition.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in advanced proteomics and laboratory instrumentation. Companies with expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry, single-cell proteomics, and clinical applications may find this procurement particularly beneficial for expanding their market presence. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) should find this tender accessible, given its alignment with innovative and high-demand healthcare technologies. The framework agreement, lasting until March 2030, provides a stable business opportunity, allowing the successful bidder to contribute significantly to the advancements in clinical proteomics and biomarker discovery efforts at CPI.

Notice Information

Notice Title

Supply of A high resolution mass spectrometer

Notice Description

The identification and validation of cancer biomarkers requires highly sensitive and robust analytical technologies capable of delivering deep proteome coverage, reproducible quantitation, and confident peptide and protein identification. To support ongoing research in the next generation diagnostic programme at CPI Biologics, Darlington, supporting application to clinical proteomics, there is a need to procure a LC-MS system specifically optimised for advanced proteomics applications. The LC-MS instrument will underpin discovery-to-validation workflows in cancer biomarker research, enabling both untargeted and targeted proteomics approaches within a single platform. It must demonstrate proven performance in single-cell proteomics, clinical proteomics, host cell protein analysis, and post-translational modification studies, with published evidence supporting its application in these domains. High resolution, sensitivity, dynamic range, and throughput are critical to ensure reliable detection of low-abundance proteins and post-translational modifications that are central to biomarker discovery. The acquisition of this LC-MS system will provide the necessary technological foundation to accelerate biomarker discovery, improve clinical translation, and strengthen CPIs capabilities in proteomics.
