Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process overseen by NHS Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board involves the award of a contract for the "Provision of Ophthalmology Services" to Newmedica. This falls under the healthcare industry category, specifically focusing on health services, and takes place in Gloucestershire (UKK13 region). The award is part of a Provider Selection Regime governed by the Health Care Services Regulations 2023, and the contract was signed on 1st January 2025. The procurement stage is in the 'award' phase, indicating the contract is now active, having been granted through a limited procedure without a prior call for competition.

This contract signifies a considerable business opportunity, notably for larger healthcare service providers with expertise in ophthalmology. The awarded service will manage new patient referrals and provide consultant-led care pathways, adhering to national guidelines including NICE standards. Businesses capable of offering end-to-end ophthalmology care that can accommodate urgent cases post-surgery will find this partnership advantageous, as it assures patient flows from referral to treatment. Such an opportunity provides a platform for experienced providers to enhance their service delivery within NHS frameworks, driving improvements in line with the latest Royal Colleges and NHSE recommendations.
