Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the "Purchase of Stereotactic Neurosurgery Systems" was initiated by the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a central government public authority located in London, at 250 Euston Road, NW1 2PG. Concluded in the "Award" stage with a direct procurement method, this process entails the acquisition of three Stereotactic Neurosurgery systems, one frame, and associated accessories. The direct award contract, valued gross at £229,046, was awarded to Severn Healthcare Technologies Limited, a small-medium enterprise based in Selby. As part of this procurement for medical equipment, the contract runs from 5th October 2025 to 4th November 2025, with the standstill period specified to end on 2nd October 2025. The contract supports the neurosurgery services within the UK, including essential compatibility with existing hospital infrastructure.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in medical technologies, particularly those able to provide equipment that integrates seamlessly with existing healthcare systems and enhances clinical precision. SMEs like Severn Healthcare Technologies, with capabilities to meet specific technical and clinical requirements, are well-positioned to compete in such tenders. The procurement underscores the importance of innovation, compatibility, and specialisation in medical equipment to facilitate minimally invasive procedures, improving both surgical outcomes and patient experiences. Businesses that can offer cutting-edge solutions and demonstrate the capacity to maintain high standards of safety and efficiency in clinical environments stand to benefit from participating in similar future opportunities.

Notice Title

Purchase of Stereotactic Neurosurgery Systems

Notice Description

We are procuring 3 Stereotactic Neurosurgery systems and 1 frame with associated accessories

Procurement Information

The Leksell Vantage frame is essential for stereotactic neurosurgical procedures at NHNN as it is the only product that meets the specific clinical and technical requirements of the service. This minimally invasive specialty requires extreme precision to localise and treat very small targets deep within the brain. The Vantage frame uniquely enables intraoperative MRI and CT scanning and provides sub-millimetre accuracy. Having multiple different systems in situ would present significant clinical risk (due to different workflows), inequality of service delivery (patients receiving varying levels of accuracy), and increased governance risk. The Vantage frame also facilitates easier anaesthesia, improves communication during awake neurosurgical procedures, and allows the patients' head and frame to remain mobile during surgery under local anaesthetic - directly improving patient safety and experience. The Leksell Vantage solution has a proven international track record and is supported by extensive published evidence demonstrating successful outcomes in DBS surgery. It is the only solution fully integrated with Trust MRI and CT scanners, ensuring seamless operation within the current infrastructure. It is also compatible with existing stereotactic accessories, arc systems, planning software, and other non-sterile workflow components. Remaining with a single, standardised platform will minimise training requirements, reduce procedural errors, and support higher surgical throughput, ensuring the service can continue to run safely and efficiently.
