Summary of the contracting process

NHS Lanarkshire procured custom medical consumable packs for use across its hospitals. The requirement covered three specialist areas: custom theatre packs for ENT, general, gynaecological, orthopaedic, robotic and vascular surgery; custom radiology packs for biopsy and angiography procedures; and custom cardiac catheterisation laboratory packs for pacing, cardiac and central venous catheter procedures. Deliveries were to University Hospital Wishaw, University Hospital Hairmyres and University Hospital Monklands. The procurement was for goods, specifically medical kits and other medical consumables. NHS Lanarkshire acted as the buyer and central purchasing body. The requirement therefore suits manufacturers, pack configurators and specialist medical consumables suppliers able to design, assemble and supply procedure-specific packs for hospital clinical departments.

This award demonstrates established demand from NHS Lanarkshire for customised, department-specific procedure packs rather than generic consumables. A credible future competitor would need the ability to develop and consistently supply packs for several clinical specialisms, including surgery, radiology, cardiac catheterisation, pacing and vascular procedures. Strong technical capability will matter because quality and technical performance formed half of the evaluation, including a further desktop assessment for the highest-scoring bidders. Suppliers should also be able to manage electronic ordering and support reliable deliveries to multiple Lanarkshire hospitals. The competition attracted seven bids in each lot, with five SME bidders per lot, indicating that smaller specialist suppliers can participate. Relevant medical-kit manufacturing, pack assembly, quality assurance and NHS supply experience would strengthen a future response.

Lot 3 - Custom Cath Lab Packs

Supply of Custom Cath Lab packs to NHS Lanarkshire into the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory specialising in Pacing, Cardiac and Central Venus Catheter Pack Procedures.

Options: The authority may purchase additional goods of a similar type where these relate to the subject matter of the contract.

Renewal: There shall be options, at the Board's discretion, to extend the contract for up to a maximum of 4 years beyond the initial term, either in increments or as a single extension.
