Summary of the contracting process

The Centre for Process Innovation Limited (CPI), based in Redcar, United Kingdom, has completed a direct award procurement for "Biofoundry DNA Script SYNTAX equipment (and optional Hamilton liquid handler)." This procurement, supporting CPI's Biofoundry programme, is part of a broader initiative funded through Innovate UK that aims to produce synthetic DNA templates crucial for in-vitro transcription and RNA-LNP manufacturing. The procurement, valued at £2,040,000, involves the purchase of biochemical analysers from DNA SCRIPT, a large supplier located in France. The contract period is set from 14th November 2025 to 30th September 2028, with the award stage currently pending completion, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks.

This procurement presents significant growth opportunities for businesses engaged in biotechnology, especially those focusing on DNA manufacturing and analytical equipment. Firms specialising in biotechnological innovations, especially those capable of offering bespoke DNA synthesis technology, will find this procurement aligns with the expanding demand for rapid and affordable in-house DNA manufacturing solutions. Additionally, companies with experience in supporting early-stage academic and SME networks within the biofoundry sector, driven by broader global pandemic readiness initiatives, might find this opportunity conducive to fostering international collaboration and technological advancements.

Notice Title

Biofoundry DNA Script SYNTAX equipment (and optional Hamilton liquid handler)

Notice Description

CPI require equipment to manufacture DNA to support the Biofoundry programme. This equipment is specifically designated in the business case and forms part of the programme from OLS via Innovate UK. This equipment forms the first stage of the Biofoundry process, producing the synthetic DNA templates that are essential to supply in-vitro transcription (IVT) and the subsequent RNA-LNP manufacturing workflow

Procurement Information

The equipment is a prototype developed specifically to enable the Biofoundy the capability of being a 'DNA printer'. Forming a core element of the Biofoundry, it will allow bespoke DNA to be printed to support the manufacture of RNA-LNP. It will allow multiple, complex DNA candidates to be manufactured quickly, in house for a reasonable price. Facilitating the Biofoundry model. The UK Biofoundry forms part of the broader worldwide Biofoundy network. Initiated by the charity, Wellcome Leap inc, the vision is to enable early-stage academics and SME's access to cost effective RNA-LNP to enable more shots on goal with this life changing technology while enhancing the worlds pandemic readiness. The Biofoundry network, via Wellcome Leap, has directly funded development of the UK Biofoundry equipment
