Summary of the contracting process

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is in the planning stage for a procurement process titled "Tram Depot Refurbishment Project." The project involves the refurbishment and upgrade of the Nunnery Super Tram Depot in Sheffield, under the authority of a public authority within the sub-central government. The procurement falls under the "Construction work" industry category with an estimated value of £10.2 million. The procurement process is expected to commence a 12 to 18-month programme starting 1st September 2026. A preliminary market engagement event is scheduled for 24th November 2025, at the SYMCA offices in Sheffield City Centre, aiming to inform interested suppliers and gather feedback for finalising the procurement strategy. Suppliers have until 19th November 2025 to confirm their participation in this session as part of the planning stage activities.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses operating in the construction and refurbishment sectors, particularly those with expertise in depot renovation, mechanical and electrical upgrade projects, and modernisation tasks. The requirement to maintain depot operations throughout the construction period emphasises the importance of efficient project management and operational expertise. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, highlighting the inclusive nature of the procurement process. Companies with experience in infrastructure projects like roof refurbishment, mechanical system upgrades, and heavy equipment installation are particularly well-suited to compete for this opportunity. By engaging in the market engagement session, suppliers can better understand the project's scope, thus positioning themselves advantageously in the subsequent bidding process.
