Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process for the improvement of the B2017 Badsell Road/B2160 Maidstone Road junction, managed by Kent County Council, has progressed to the award stage. This project is categorised under the construction industry and serves locations across various regions in the United Kingdom. The contract, valued at approximately £2.97 million, was awarded to BREHENY CIVIL ENGINEERING LIMITED on 14th July 2026 and involves works such as road widening, new junction signals, and drainage improvements. The procurement method used was open and competitive, making it flexible and accommodating for various business sizes, with interested parties having been initially invited to participate through an open tender published last year. The contract period is from 27th July 2026 to 31st March 2027, marking a significant development phase expected to mitigate traffic impacts and improve surrounding infrastructure and safety, particularly for local students accessing Mascalls Academy.

This tender presents numerous opportunities for businesses in the construction sector, specifically those with expertise in civil engineering and public infrastructure projects. Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) particularly stand to benefit, as the initial tender process included provisions for SME participation, underscoring a commitment to involving diverse suppliers. The awarded contract emphasises competitive and fair procurement practices, where a variety of suppliers could demonstrate technical competence, thereby promoting business growth and capacity building within the region. Businesses focused on providing construction machinery, materials, and innovative engineering solutions are ideally positioned to compete for similar opportunities, contributing to the ongoing development of public infrastructure and services.
