Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board is planning a procurement process for the provision of GP-led Same Day Access Services in Primary Care, targeted at patients in Leicestershire County. This procurement falls within the health services category, specifically focusing on services designed to provide timely, face-to-face clinical care during evenings and weekends. The procurement is in the planning stage, with an intended date for publishing the future notice being 4th December 2025. Services are expected to commence in April 2026, under a 12-month initial phase, with contracts awarded across four geographical areas: East Leicestershire, North-West Leicestershire, Hinckley & Bosworth, and Charnwood, with an overall estimated value of approximately £1,706,496. The procurement method employed will be the Provider Selection Regime's Most Suitable Provider process, aligned with the Health Care Services Regulations 2023.

This procurement provides significant opportunities for businesses operating within the healthcare sector, particularly those experienced in delivering primary care services on a large scale. It presents an ideal opportunity for GP practices, healthcare networks, and independent primary care providers capable of operating at-scale services. Businesses that can demonstrate efficiency in coordination with NHS services, such as NHS 111, and offer innovative solutions for managing a range of urgent health conditions will likely find success. Moreover, organisations looking to expand their operations in the Leicestershire region could leverage this opportunity, as the model aims to improve patient access and system integration, reducing the need for onward referrals and enhancing continuity of care for complex conditions. The geographic division into four lots allows smaller providers to target specific areas, maximising their local expertise and operational capacity.
