Summary of the contracting process

Essex County Council has awarded a contract for the construction and management of a 60-apartment extra care scheme, known as Coppins Court, located within the Tendring District Council area. This initiative aims to provide accommodation for individuals with care needs, such as older adults and those with learning disabilities. The procurement process followed an open method and is valued at £16.5 million. The final contract award was announced on 25th June 2026, with a planned contract period from 7th August 2026 to 7th August 2028. The project falls under the works category and is set to cater to multiple care requirements, demonstrating the council’s commitment to social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses involved in construction, particularly those with experience in building completion and management services of care facilities. SMEs, specifically, could benefit from the contracts due to the open procurement process, which promotes competition. Enterprises with innovative approaches to sustainable construction, community engagement, and social value are well-positioned to thrive.
