Summary of the contracting process

The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is undertaking a significant procurement process titled "Enterprise Network Replacement" aimed at replacing the entire network infrastructure across all sites within the Trust. This initiative falls under the services category, specifically computer network services, and is located in the Bristol region, United Kingdom. The procurement process is in the Award stage, following a direct award method to BLOCK SOLUTIONS LIMITED. This contract, valued grossly at £24,000,000, was awarded on 20th January 2026 and is set to start on 1st February 2026, spanning a period of five years until 31st January 2031. Key dates within this process include the end of the standstill period on 29th January 2026 and the scheduled contract signature on 30th January 2026.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for business growth, particularly for enterprises specialising in network services. The contract’s extensive scope, which encompasses management, support, and maintenance of the network, aligns well with businesses that possess expertise in Cisco technologies and comprehensive network management solutions, a niche area where BLOCK SOLUTIONS LIMITED already holds a strong position. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) situated within the technology sector, especially those familiar with digital transformation strategies within healthcare settings, stand to benefit from engaging in similar future tenders initiated by NHS Trusts seeking reliable and secure network solutions. Such opportunities underscore the growing importance of technological infrastructure in supporting healthcare service delivery and strategic organisational objectives.

Notice Title

Enterprise Network Replacement

Notice Description

This procurement is to replace the whole Network infrastructure across all sites within the UHBW Trust over a two-year period to align with NBT's Network Infrastructure and their incumbent supplier; BLOCK. The contract will be for a period of 5 years, during which it will bring in line NBT's BLOCK contract to a joint end date, and includes responsibility for the ongoing management, support and maintenance of the Network for the contract life.

Procurement Information

In July 2023 NBT invested into a major upgrade of its Cisco-based network, significantly strengthening its resilience and cyber security. In contrast, UHBW's network is outdated, with many components beyond end-of-life, it lacks the performance, security and resilience needed for a modern digital-first NHS Trust and to create a single group wide solution. To align both Trusts, UHBW must adopt the same Cisco Software-Defined Access (SDA) architecture, enabling seamless integration and consistent management. NBTs network provision uses Cisco technologies alongside Block design and support services. Block therefore hold a unique position as a partner who has a deep understanding of the Trusts network design, implementation, security, monitoring, and support service. A unified Cisco-based network, delivered by a single provider, is essential for interoperability, clinical safety, and the successful delivery of the Joint Clinical Strategy. Block already possesses in-depth knowledge of NBT's network architecture, configurations, incident history and security posture. Block therefore is the only provider with the technical knowledge to deliver the scope for the merged organisation.
