Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process initiated by the Department for Business & Trade involves the provision of Bill of Lading Shipping Data services, already awarded to ThinkData Works Limited. The department, located in London, serves as the central government public authority overseeing this process. This procurement falls under the services industry category and utilises a direct award method due to single supplier technical reasons, in accordance with the legal basis from the Procurement Act 2023. The contract, active from 21 January 2026 to 28 November 2026, can be extended by up to twelve months. The procurement has advanced to the award stage, with the contract valued at £260,000 and metrics such as data accuracy being integral to performance evaluations.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in data services, particularly those capable of delivering high-accuracy data solutions. Given the focus on UK container trade data, companies within the logistics and shipping data sectors could find synergies beneficial for both expansion and service enhancement. The specific requirement for detailed container, shipper, and vessel data implies that enterprises with established expertise in maritime data analytics and reporting could be well-positioned to meet these high standards, fostering growth through collaboration with essential government operations. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) aiming to provide unique technical solutions will also find this contract a potentially rewarding avenue for business growth.
