North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWA NHS FT) is preparing the scope of requirements for the provision of Bereavement and Mortuary Services across its hospital sites including: - Peterborough City Hospital - Stamford and Rutland Hospital - Hinchingbrooke Hospital The potential scale and complexity of this service offers a significant opportunity to providers within the funeral, bereavement, and mortuary services sector. Prior to initiating any procurement, the Trust wishes to engage with the market to discuss key topics that will inform the future procurement exercise, including specification scope and potential contract allocation (lots), service resilience, cultural inclusivity, governance, compliance with emerging standards and procurement process. The scope of services includes, but is not limited to: Collection and transfer of deceased patients (including bariatric and super-bariatric cases) within defined timeframes. Provision of hospital-arranged funerals, cremations, and burials in line with the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) Code of Practice. Temporary storage and care of the deceased in secure, dignified facilities, including viewing arrangements for families. Accommodation of cultural, religious, and individualised care requirements. Out-of-hours collection and funeral arrangements. Coordination with hospital mortuary and bereavement teams across multiple sites. Compliance with NHS standards, infection control, safeguarding, and recommendations from the David Fuller Inquiry. Robust governance, incident reporting, and continuous improvement mechanisms. Digital tracking and traceability of deceased patients. Oversight and audit facilitation for the Trust, including site visits and record reviews. Service should be VAT Exempt

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (the “Authority”) is seeking to engage with the market in advance of a forthcoming procurement for the provision of Bereavement and Mortuary Services across its hospital sites, including Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and Stamford and Rutland Hospital. Suppliers wishing to participate in this pre-market engagement should confirm their interest by email to nwangliaft.procurement@nhs.net to arrange a 121 meeting with the Trust before the Engagement Deadline.
