Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Bromley is procuring NHS Health Checks through an alternative provider to cover gaps in delivery by Bromley GP practices. The service is part of the public health programme and provides risk assessment and prevention checks to identify people at risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and some types of dementia, helping them manage or reduce those risks. The provider will serve eligible people registered with Bromley GP practices across Bromley, including house-bound patients who need checks at home. The requirement is a health and related community service, with social work and other community services also classified within its scope. The contract is intended to support the Council’s statutory responsibility to offer NHS Health Checks to all eligible people.

This procurement has been awarded and the tender is complete. Bromley used the Provider Selection Regime’s Direct Award Process C rather than a competitive tender. The award was made on 3 December 2025 to Bromley GP Alliance Limited, and the contract was signed on 12 August 2026. The awarded value is £316,620 excluding VAT, or £379,944 including VAT. The contract record runs from 13 August 2026 to 31 March 2030; the procurement description states that service commencement is 1 April 2026. The contract may be extended by two years, to 31 March 2032, at the Council’s discretion, subject to satisfactory performance and service requirements. The stated delivery target is 1,000 NHS Health Checks per year.

This requirement is most relevant to primary care providers, GP federations, community health organisations and other NHS health-check specialists able to deliver structured cardiovascular risk assessment at scale. A credible future supplier would need to reach eligible patients registered with Bromley GP practices, provide home visits for house-bound patients, and operate reliably across both routine and home-based delivery. Clinical teams must deliver every element of the NHS Health Check and cardiovascular risk assessment using the Basic Practice Guidance and a validated risk engine such as QRisk. The award also shows that Bromley may use the Provider Selection Regime’s Direct Award Process C for this type of light-touch health service, so organisations should understand that route and demonstrate service quality, capacity, validated clinical processes and satisfactory performance.
