Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, is currently planning for a procurement process concerning the delivery of childcare services at Prince Charles Hospital, located in Merthyr Tydfil. This planning stage invites expressions of interest from childcare providers, with the deadline for submissions set for 13th February 2026. The initiative falls under the services category, specifically targeting social work and building rental services. The planned contract period is from 2nd November 2026 to 1st November 2031, and providers are encouraged to offer a blend of childcare solutions, including fee-paying and government-supported placements.

This tender opportunity provides a substantial growth potential for experienced childcare providers who are committed to quality and innovation. Businesses with a focus on community engagement and the capacity to manage a day care facility will find this opportunity well-aligned with their objectives. With the ability to leverage existing facilities and potentially access capital funding for new equipment, this project promises to be a strategic move for providers aiming to expand their operations within the public sector in the UK, particularly in regions governed by Welsh devolved regulations.

Notice Title

Delivery of Childcare Provision at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil

Notice Description

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) is inviting expressions of interest from experienced and forward-thinking childcare providers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families. This is a unique opportunity to take on the management of an established Day care facility based on Prince Charles Hospital site in the Gurnos area of Merthyr Tydfil. The provider will take full responsibility for the management of the service including the employment of staff. Before launching a formal procurement process, we are keen to hear from providers who are interested in continuing the delivery of high-quality childcare provision and also have a long-term vision for the provision. It will be expected that the service will offer Childcare Offer, Flying Start and fee-paying placements and offer out-of-school provision, tailored to meet the changing needs of families. The current setting, Funtazia Day Nursery are Care Inspectorate for Wales (CIW) registered to provide full daycare for up to 48 children, aged 0-8 years. Whilst places must be prioritised for NHS employees, it will be expected that the service will be available to all families who wish to attend. The building is owned by CTMUHB and there will be a lease arrangement and charges in place with the provider. Some of the transferable fixtures, fittings and resources from the current provision will be available to the new provider at no cost and will remain assets of the Flying Start Programme. In addition, there may be opportunities for the incoming provider to apply for capital funding from MTCBC to support the purchase of any new equipment. This is a chance to become a key player in shaping the future of childcare in Merthyr Tydfil. Providers with a commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement are encouraged to express their interest.
