Summary of the contracting process

Sellafield Limited has issued a preliminary market engagement notice to assess the capability and interest of suppliers in the production and delivery of Miscellaneous Beta Gamma Waste (MBGW) Boxes. This procurement falls under the industry categories of nuclear waste packaging and steel, with a focus on goods. The buying organisation, Sellafield Limited, is located in Warrington, UK, and operates under the classification of a sub-central public authority. The procurement stage is currently in the planning phase, with an engagement process seeking supplier feedback due by 12 June 2026. The engagement aims to understand the viability of a single supplier model, as well as mobilisation and delivery timelines, to inform the procurement strategy scheduled for further notice on 1 November 2026.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in manufacturing and supplying complex engineered goods, particularly those with experience in the nuclear sector. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) might find this tender attractive due to its suitability criteria, which supports SME participation. With an anticipated contract value of £12 million to £14.4 million and a delivery demand of 11 to 33 units per annum over a five-year contract, this procurement could lead to substantial business growth. Firms with robust supply chain capabilities and experience in product introduction methodologies, such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), are well-positioned to compete successfully. The requirement for validating delivery models and mobilisation timelines further indicates an opportunity for businesses with strong project management skills to collaborate with Sellafield Ltd in aligning technical and commercial strategies.

Notice Title

Preliminary Market Engagement - MBGWS Boxes

Notice Description

This notice builds on the previous Preliminary Market Engagement (UK2 Notice reference: 004728-2026), published on 20 January 2026, which sought to assess supplier capability and market interest in the manufacture and supply of Miscellaneous Beta Gamma Waste (MBGW) Boxes. That engagement demonstrated a strong level of market interest and identified a number of capable suppliers. Sellafield Ltd is now undertaking a further phase of market engagement to refine its understanding of supplier capacity, mobilisation requirements, and commercial considerations in advance of finalising the procurement strategy. The current preferred delivery model is for the full assembly of MBGW Boxes by a single supplier. This engagement is intended to gather targeted feedback to validate this approach and inform the design of the forthcoming procurement. The requirement is expected to include the manufacture, assembly, testing, and delivery of Miscellaneous Beta Gamma Waste (MBGW) Boxes in accordance with Sellafield Ltd specifications and requirements. The anticipated demand profile remains within a range of approximately 11 to 33 units per annum, subject to confirmation. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A CALL FOR COMPETITION
