Summary of the contracting process

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is initiating a procurement process for managed waste services, currently in the planning stage as of 3rd July 2026. This process includes multiple procurement exercises, covering general, recycling, glass, food, clinical, confidential, and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) services. The procurement is categorised under refuse and waste related services and follows an open procedure, expected to commence officially with tenders issued during Summer 2026 for some categories, while others will follow later in Autumn and Winter. Located in Southampton, the buyer is actively engaging with the market to refine its approach before moving to the tendering stage, with supplier engagement meetings scheduled earlier on 4th March 2026.

This represents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in waste management, particularly those with capabilities across the varied waste service categories outlined. Companies offering solutions in clinical waste, recycling, and electronic waste management could find this particularly appealing. This tender allows for engagement in a long-term contract, scheduled from July 2027 to June 2032, with potential options for extension. Enterprises eager to expand their portfolio with public sector contracts, especially in the healthcare domain, will find this an advantageous entry point into a secure and potentially lucrative partnership with a central government public authority.

Notice Title

Market Engagement for the Provision of Managed Waste Services

Notice Description

Following completion of preliminary market engagement, the Authority has reviewed its proposed procurement strategy for waste management services. The original intention was to procure a Total Managed Waste Service contract covering all waste streams. However, feedback received during market engagement, together with the Authority's subsequent review, has resulted in a revised approach to market. The Authority now intends to undertake four separate procurement exercises as follows: General, Recycling, Glass and Food Waste Services - procurement anticipated to be issued in Summer 2026. Clinical Waste Services - procurement anticipated to be issued in Summer 2026. Confidential Waste Services - procurement anticipated to be issued in Autumn 2026. WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Services - procurement anticipated to be issued in Winter 2026/27. The Authority reserves the right to amend the scope, structure and timing of these procurements. Organisations with an interest in these opportunities are advised to monitor Find a Tender for further information and the publication of future procurement documents.
