Summary of the contracting process

The Health and Safety Executive seeks to procure an 80 mm vacuum insulated control valve suitable for liquid hydrogen service, as part of an experimental programme. The valve must be delivered to the HSE test site in Buxton by August 2026. This procurement is ongoing under the open method, with all documents available via the HSE In-Tend portal. Companies must submit responses by 6th March 2026, with the enquiry period ending on 27th February 2026. The procurement is classified under industrial process control equipment, pipeline, piping, and related items, with a contract value of £24,000, grossing £20,000. The procurement aligns with UK legal standards and involves an open competition below the threshold.

This tender presents significant opportunities for companies specialising in industrial process control equipment and related hardware, particularly those experienced in handling hydrogen service at cryogenic temperatures. The competitive nature of the bid, evaluated on the ability to deliver, specification adherence, timeline, and pricing, encourages participation from firms capable of meeting stringent technical requirements. The HSE's procurement process, guided by clear compliance standards and timelines, offers growth potential to businesses poised to deliver cutting-edge solutions to central government agencies. Registration and document submission are conveniently managed through an electronic portal, easing entry for qualified firms looking to expand their portfolio with government contracts.
