Summary of the contracting process

The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust has awarded a contract for podiatry services to forensic mental health and learning disability services within Ridgeway. Categorised under health services (CPV code 85100000), this urgent procurement was carried out using the Provider Selection Regime under the Health Care Services Regulations 2023, bypassing the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 due to extreme urgency. The tendering process initiated without prior publication involves a limited procurement method aimed at safeguarding patient care, as regular podiatry services are inaccessible for secure inpatients. The contract commenced on 2nd March 2026 and spans 12 months with an annual value of £14,618. Key decision-makers involved included Phil Strange, Richard Hand, Steve Tait, and Liz Romaniak.

This contract offers substantial business opportunities for service providers specialising in healthcare, particularly those with expertise in delivering podiatry services within mental health and disability environments. The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust requires providers who can fulfil weekly clinical sessions and engage in regular reporting and contract meetings, presenting an opportunity for businesses focusing on niche healthcare services to expand their presence in specialised areas. Companies with experience in urgent healthcare service provision and those capable of maintaining high standards in patient care within secure settings will find this opportunity well-suited to their capabilities.
