Summary of the contracting process

The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has completed the procurement process for the "Maintenance of Thermo Fisher iCAP TQe ICP-MS," a specialised service contract essential for Trace Element analysis and clinical diagnostics including Cystic Fibrosis monitoring. This contract, initiated through a direct procurement method and classified under services, specifically repair and maintenance of medical equipment, was awarded to Thermo Fisher Diagnostics Limited. As the original equipment manufacturer, Thermo Fisher is uniquely positioned to provide the required maintenance services due to the bespoke nature of the equipment involved. While the award was announced on 18th February 2026, the contract's execution is scheduled to commence on 1st February 2027, continuing until the end of January 2030. Located in Nottingham, UK, this procurement falls below the financial threshold for competition, compelling the Trust to engage Thermo Fisher through a direct award.

This tender presents significant opportunities for large businesses specializing in medical equipment maintenance, particularly those with in-depth expertise with ICP-MS instruments, like Thermo Fisher. Though this contract was not open for competitive bidding, similar future tenders could provide growth opportunities for other large-scale suppliers who align with the specific requirements of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust or similar medical facilities. Businesses with a strong track record in high-tech equipment maintenance, especially within the healthcare sector, would find themselves well-suited for potential engagements of this nature. Staying abreast of tenders within networks like ME2, and collaborating with healthcare services, will be instrumental for businesses aiming to expand their footprint in this specialised field.
