Summary of the contracting process

The Isle of Wight Council, a sub-central government public authority located in Newport, is in the planning stages of procuring services related to body removal and transfers within and from the Isle of Wight. The tender, titled "LOT 1)- Body Removal West Wight; (LOT 2)- Body Removal East Wight; and (LOT 3)- Body Transfers," falls under the health and social work services category. The procurement was initially advertised under a light touch regime but will be revised to meet above-threshold requirements following the recent cancellation due to a compliance issue with the Procurement Act 2023. The contract was intended to commence on 1st June 2026 and run for three years with a possible two-year extension, aligning with the Council and HM Coroner's specifications. Although the recent tender process has been terminated, there is an indication that a new compliant tender process will be initiated soon.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses with expertise in dignified, respectful, and safe body transport services, including the handling of deceased persons from various locations on the Isle of Wight and occasionally to the mainland. Ideal candidates will include companies with established practices in health and safety legislation, experienced personnel, and the capacity for timely service delivery. Prospective suppliers should be prepared to operate three distinct budgeted lots, ensuring adherence to operational and documentation standards required by the Council and HM Coroner. This presents not only a substantial business prospect for funeral service providers but also for logistics companies with capabilities aligned to the transportation of sensitive cargo. With a gross estimated contract value of £521,208, the reevaluation process should enable compliant businesses to engage in what could become a thriving contractual partnership subject to further tender announcement.
