Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is in the planning stage of an exciting new procurement process focused on the industry category of Health and Social Work Services, specifically targeting autism, learning disabilities, and neurodiversity. Known as "Autism, Learning Disability or Neurodiversity," the procurement aims to enhance the well-being of autistic adults, adults with learning disabilities, and neurodivergent residents by promoting prevention, independence, and community inclusion. A market engagement event has been scheduled virtually for 11th March 2026 at 10am via Teams, offering potential providers a chance to shape the borough's ambitious programme. Interested parties are invited to register by 9th March 2026. This initiative promises to foster a systematic, inclusive framework designed to establish peer networks and lived experience leadership within Barking and Dagenham. The contract period for this programme is planned from 1st October 2026 to 30th September 2030.

This procurement presents considerable business growth opportunities for innovative providers skilled in autism, learning disabilities, and neurodiversity services. The council seeks to partner with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) that can offer creative solutions for embedding sustainable peer support and co-production systems. By engaging in this opportunity, providers can significantly influence the health and social care landscape in the community and be integral to the borough's development of a future prevention offer. Participation not only allows direct input into the programme's design but also positions businesses advantageously for the future tendering process under the council’s forward-thinking approach to service delivery.
