Summary of the contracting process

The NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB) is advancing its procurement process through the completion of a contract aimed at enhancing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Pathway services. This initiative falls within the health services industry category and is located in the North East and North Cumbria region. The contract, awarded under the Direct Award Process B, distinguishes itself by operating outside the guidelines of the Procurement Act 2023 and Procurement Regulations 2024. Set to begin on 1 April 2026, the engagement spans three years with a potential extension of two years, concluding in March 2031. This procurement process follows a limited method without prior publication of a call for competition, focusing heavily on patient choice as the award criterion.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for growth, especially for large-scale suppliers positioned within the healthcare sector. Businesses that offer diagnostic, assessment, and post-diagnostic services for ADHD and Autism can leverage the patient choice framework designed by NENC ICB to deliver high-quality services. While the activity-based tariff model ensures payment upon service completion, the lack of guaranteed minimum activity requires suppliers to innovate and maintain high service standards. Psych-UK Limited has been earmarked for this contract, suggesting that established providers with a robust presence in health care services, particularly mental health and neurodiversity, stand to benefit substantially from this procurement. The initiative underscores areas for strategic engagement and partnership development in health services across the North East and North Cumbria region.
