Summary of the contracting process

The Tees Valley Combined Authority, a sub-central public authority situated at Teesside International Airport in Darlington, UK, has completed the award stage of a procurement process for extending bus service 36A. The contract has been awarded to Cleveland Transit Ltd, a large-scale supplier based in Stockport, as part of a direct procurement method deemed below threshold - without competition. The contract commences on 29th March 2026 and may extend until 26th September 2026, with a total potential value of approximately £52,365.77. The main procurement category is public road transport services, with the initial contract period ending on 18th July 2026. The award is aligned with Transport Act and related regulatory frameworks, and a transparency notice was published on Find a Tender on 6th March 2026. A further milestone involves the contract signature scheduled for 20th March 2026.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses involved in providing public road transport services. Cleveland Transit Ltd's award under the de minimis bus transport subsidy provision echoes their prior success in related regional services. Large companies with resource scale similar to Cleveland Transit and those already engaged with transport authorities will find this sector ripe for growth by leveraging direct procurement methods for service developments. The contract's extension option and alignment with local transport subsidy regulations suggest continued demand in regional public transit enhancements, thereby paving the way for substantial operational and service expansion within the transport industry.
