Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland ICB is in the process of awarding a contract for the provision of integrated urgent care services in East Leicestershire and Rutland. This procurement falls under the Provider Selection Regime, governed by the Health Care Services Regulations 2023, and is valued at approximately £5.5 million for a duration of 24 months, commencing on 1st April 2026. The process involves awarding the contract to DHU Health Care C.I.C., the current provider, through a direct award procedure that bypasses a competitive call for competition. The contract is currently in the award stage, with a standstill period starting on 12th March 2026. Providers interested in making representations must do so by 23rd March 2026. The procurement focuses on health services aimed at reducing emergency department visits, thereby addressing local demand in the region UKF22, and enhancing urgent care delivery.

This tender presents opportunities for businesses involved in healthcare delivery and integrated care services, particularly those with expertise in managing urgent care systems. As the contract is a direct award to an existing provider satisfying current obligations, businesses capable of demonstrating similar competencies may position themselves as potential collaborators or subcontractors. The procurement method favours organisations with proven track records and strengths in delivering value and compliance with technical and professional standards. Businesses specialising in healthcare management, operations, or consultancy may find lucrative opportunities in supporting the lead provider in achieving contract objectives, thereby fostering business growth within the region.
