Summary of the contracting process

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust initiated a public procurement process titled "Falls Prevention and Detection Products, Systems and Support Services" aimed at enhancing safety through advanced medical products and systems. Located in Chester, UK, the procurement process falls under the medical consumables and miscellaneous medical devices and products industry category. Initially published on 12 March 2026, the tender followed an open procurement procedure. The submission and tender period concluded on 15 April 2026, with the award process ending on 22 June 2026. Although the tender phase is classified as complete, it ended with the decision not to award the contract as of 1 May 2026, signalling a tender cancellation. This cancelation was formally documented on 12 May 2026 via a tender cancellation notice.

This procurement process was designed to establish a multi-supplier framework valued at up to £23.4 million for key medical products aimed at falls prevention and detection. The open framework was structured to accommodate both small and medium enterprise participation, making it particularly attractive for businesses with expertise in medical supplies and safety systems seeking growth through public contracts. Suppliers meeting rigorous criteria could expect further engagement opportunities over the framework's eight-year lifespan. With periodic opportunities for revision and competition rotation, this framework would have suited businesses looking to establish a foothold in the healthcare sector, particularly those capable of aligning with the technical and commercial criteria specified within the framework agreements.
