Summary of the contracting process

The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is set to award the contract "Distress Brief Intervention - Durham and Derwentside" under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. This process kicks off with an intention to award notice, marking the commencement of the standstill period. Business users must ensure that their representations are submitted to the decision-makers by 25th March 2026. The tender aims to deliver health and social work services, focusing on adults experiencing emotional distress, specifically in the Derwentside area of Tees Valley and County Durham. The procurement falls within the limited procurement method classification due to specific regional regulations, with contracts valued at £233,000 for 12 months. The awarding is poised to follow a direct award process and is under 'Award' stage as of March 12, 2026.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities, especially for providers within the health services industry capable of delivering compassionate and rapid response interventions for adults in distress. Firms with experience in mental health services and strong inter-agency partnership capabilities will be well-suited to compete. The DBI programme, already a key component in Scotland, is expected to provide substantial clinical and operational benefits, reducing demand on emergency pathways while improving coping mechanisms for individuals. Participation enables businesses not only to contribute meaningfully to mental health services but also to join a network of DBI learning communities, boosting innovation and service quality. Existing service providers proving adept at upholding high standards in previous contracts will likely find themselves at an advantage under the PSR's criteria.
