Summary of the contracting process

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (HIOW ICB) is currently in the planning stage for two Alternative Provider Medical Service (APMS) contracts aimed at delivering NHS primary medical services to existing patient lists in Southampton (Solent GP Surgery) and Basingstoke (Shakespeare Road Medical Practice). These contracts are central to providing high-quality, equitable and responsive general practice services to diverse local populations. The procurement aims to establish a long-term agreement, anticipated to start in April 2027 and potentially extend until 2042. Interested parties are invited to a webinar on 23rd April 2026, with the engagement period concluding on 6th May 2026. This initiative falls under the services category, with emphasis on medical practice and related services in the UKJ32 and UKJ37 regions.

This procurement process presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in healthcare services, particularly those equipped to handle large-scale and diverse patient demographics typical of NHS primary medical service providers. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that can fulfil requirements for long-term service delivery, maintain high standards of accessibility and equity in healthcare, and adapt to the needs of the community are well-suited to compete. The potential for a contract lasting up to 15 years offers a stable, predictable source of income and a platform for sustained business growth within the central government public authority framework.
