Summary of the contracting process

The Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre, a central government public authority located in London, has awarded a contract for the service and maintenance of lifts, including both passenger and goods lifts. The procurement falls under the "services" category and was completed via a direct award process due to technical reasons requiring a single supplier, Vertical Movement Services Limited. Significant dates include the award date on 16 April 2026 and the contract period starting on 30 April 2026, extending potentially until March 2032. The agreement ensures the continued operational functionality of lifts in the Centre, which is crucial for maintaining event operations on upper floors.

This tender offers strategic opportunities for businesses specialising in lift maintenance services, particularly for SMEs who can fulfil niche technical requirements. With the contract awarded to Vertical Movement Services Limited, businesses in this sector could find avenues for collaboration, subcontracting, or preparing for future similar opportunities. The contract highlights the need for specialised skills, especially with regard to maintaining older lift models, showcasing a significant market potential for companies capable of such technical services. This initiative highlights the importance of reliable service provision in government facilities, where operational efficiency and service continuity are paramount.

Notice Title

Service and Maintenance of Lifts

Notice Description

Following the issue of the transparency notice, this is to formally confirm the award of the contract

Procurement Information

The goods lift at the QEII Centre is the original as fitted in 1986, VMS is the only company which is prepared to maintain this lift but in isolation it is not commercially viable for them to do so. Therefore to ensure commercial viability, VMS is awarded the contract for the maintenance and service of all lifts in the QEII Centre. If the goods lift were to break down without this service cover in place, the upper event spaces in the Centre would be have their usage severely restricted. This would result in a significant loss of revenue to the Centre which is a government trading fund and thus a public body.
