Summary of the contracting process

The Corporation of Trinity House has initiated a procurement process seeking a contractor with expertise in Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to devise a synthetic trace generation model replicating maritime traffic patterns in specific areas. The contract, titled "Agent Based Maritime Traffic Modelling", falls under the services category within the information technology industry and focuses on the United Kingdom (region UKI). The process is currently in the planning stage, with key deadlines pointing to a milestone due by 20th July 2026. Trinity House, based in London, serves as the buyer and central government public authority driving this initiative.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses rooted in information technology services, particularly those specialising in ML and AI applications. Companies capable of developing advanced modelling systems that simulate varied maritime conditions will find this contract aligned with their growth objectives. The project budget is set at £120,000 gross, signalling substantial potential for engagement and innovation. Organisations with the capacity to handle complex data and generate synthetic traces akin to real-world AIS data will be well-suited to compete, contributing to their portfolio in enhancing maritime infrastructure simulations.

Notice Title

Agent Based Maritime Traffic Modelling (Contractor)

Notice Description

Trinity House (TH) are looking for a contractor to provide ML/AI expertise and to develop a synthetic trace generation model that reflects the macroscopic characteristics of real-world maritime traffic. Its aim is to replicate the general maritime traffic patterns of an examined area, not to predict the precise future course of individual vessels. To facilitate the exploration of 'what-if' scenarios, the envisaged model should be capable of simulating various maritime conditions and configurations/layouts of offshore infrastructure for an examined location. The generated synthetic traces are expected to contain information similar to that found in real-world AIS data, including fields such as vessel speed, course, and other pertinent details. TH will offer advice, guidance, and supervision throughout the project to ensure alignment with our requirements.
