Summary of the contracting process

Peterborough City Council is planning to commission services within the health and social work sector, focusing on older people's respite care in care homes. The procurement stage is currently in planning, with a Preliminary Market Engagement (PME) exercise underway to inform future commissioning decisions. This is aimed at block commissioning pre-bookable respite care for older adults. Key dates include an optional provider engagement session on 5th May 2025, with the deadline for the PME responses set for 18th May 2026. The services will be delivered in the UKH11 and UKH12 regions, covering Peterborough and surrounding locations. Businesses interested in government procurement with experience in health services should note this opportunity.

This tender offers ample opportunities for growth to businesses specialising in health services and social care, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs). By engaging in the PME, businesses can help shape the future design of services, providing insights into feasible delivery models and cost assumptions. With the contract period running from April 2027 to March 2031, this presents a substantial opportunity for service providers looking to expand their market presence in public authority healthcare provision. Businesses equipped to provide flexible, high-quality respite care solutions would be well-positioned to bid for this tender as it progresses towards the award stage.
