Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process involves the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), based in Birmingham, engaging in a contract with Weightmans LLP to provide external advice regarding Housing Development Grants. The procurement falls under the legal advisory services category, specifically focusing on services, with a geographical scope within the UK. The procurement stage is the award phase, with the contract status active as of 27th March 2026, and valued at £105,000 GBP. Weightmans LLP has been appointed due to its extensive experience in advising public bodies on grant funding, aiding WMCA's objective of entering multiple grant agreements between April and December 2026 using a limited procurement method, without prior publication of a call for competition. This strategic appointment aims to satisfy strict conditions stated in directive 32014L0024.

This tender creates considerable opportunities for law firms, particularly those specialising in legal advisory services. The procurement process benefits firms that possess a strong track record in public sector engagements and can deliver targeted support in negotiating and agreeing upon complex grant agreements. Businesses capable of offering tailored legal advice and swift drafting services would be well-suited to compete in tenders of similar nature. With WMCA seeking firms with proven capability to work within set timeframes, companies that have demonstrated efficiency and expertise in handling repetitive, directive-compliant services are poised for potential collaboration with regional authorities like WMCA.
