Summary of the contracting process

The NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board has awarded a contract for pharmacy services under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) for the year 2026/27. The contract, titled "NHS South Yorkshire ICB Barnsley - Boots Pharmacy Contract 2026/27," focuses on delivering locally enhanced services integrated with additional pharmacy contracts for the Barnsley population in South Yorkshire, under the category of health care services. This contract was awarded through a limited procurement method to Boots UK Limited, without prior publication of a call for competition. The procurement is classified under the repetition of existing services, with payment based on activity at local prices. The contract award date is 29th April 2026, and the contract period runs from 1st April 2026 to 31st March 2027.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities for pharmacies equipped to deliver integrated health services that align with the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) and Local Care Services (LCS). Only existing providers who can meet the specific contract criteria are eligible, highlighting the importance of having established pharmacy operations capable of enhancing service delivery within the community framework. It is particularly suitable for large pharmacies that are adept at handling complex service interdependencies and are seeking to expand their footprint within the Barnsley region by providing integrated health care solutions. The contract basis on activity creates a favourable situation for pharmacies looking to optimise their service provision and expand their business reach in South Yorkshire.

Notice Description

The provider is commissioner to deliver locally enhanced services for the Barnsley population integrated with their additional pharmacy contracts.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Contract Award has been made following direct award process B under the Provider Selection Regime.

This contract is awarded to an existing provider for an existing service. Although we would not restrict the number of providers who deliver these LCS services provided they meet the contract and specification criteria, the primary reason that these services can only be delivered by this group of providers (pharmacy) is because they are required to hold a contract via the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) and deliver the LCS alongside these services; the LCS is designed to enhance the (CPCF) contract and not stand alone, therefore, interdependency between the two services is paramount. For this reason not every Pharmacy delivers every LCS.

The provider is paid on an activity basis based on local prices.

The contract runs from 01/04/2026 to 31/03/2027.
