Summary of the contracting process

The NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board has awarded a contract under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 for pharmacy services in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The awarded contract, titled "NHS South Yorkshire ICB Barnsley - Gatehouse Pharmacy Contract 2026/27," falls under the industry category of pharmacy services. The procurement stage is at the award level, confirmed on 29th April 2026, with the contract commencing on 1st April 2026 and concluding on 31st March 2027. The procurement method was limited, being an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition.

This tender presents opportunities particularly for pharmacies capable of delivering locally enhanced services through the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF). It is suited for existing providers who can integrate additional pharmacy contracts with local services. As the awarded contract is activity-based and targets a niche segment, pharmacies in the Barnsley area looking to expand their service offerings geographically or through enhanced local service delivery may find potential growth opportunities. Gatehouse Pharmacy, a small-to-medium enterprise, has been awarded this contract, demonstrating the viability for SMEs specialising in healthcare and pharmacy services to engage in local contracts under the Provider Selection Regime.

Selection Regime.

This contract is awarded to an existing provider for an existing service. Although we would not restrict the number of providers who deliver these LCS services provided they meet the contract and specification criteria, the primary reason that these services can only be delivered by this group of providers (pharmacy) is because they are required to hold a contract via the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) and deliver the LCS alongside these services; the LCS is designed to enhance the (CPCF) contract and not stand alone, therefore, interdependency between the two services is paramount. For this reason not every Pharmacy delivers every LCS.

The provider is paid on an activity basis based on local prices.

The contract runs from 01/04/2026 to 31/03/2027.
