Summary of the contracting process

Shropshire Council is conducting a pre-market engagement for the procurement of cross-pavement charging solutions for electric vehicles. The initiative aims to enable residents without off-street parking in Shropshire to safely charge their vehicles on-street. The engagement process is currently at the planning stage and involves collecting information from potential suppliers to shape the final technical specifications. A market engagement event is slated for May 2026, with responses to the market engagement form due by 22nd May 2026. The procurement, estimated at a gross value of £535,120, falls under the "works" category with a focus on electrical equipment and infrastructure. The procurement exercise is expected to progress later in 2026, with installations anticipated to begin in October 2026.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in electric vehicle infrastructure and electrical installation works. Companies that can offer a fully managed, turnkey solution including installation, ownership, and maintenance of the cross-pavement channels are particularly well-suited. Engaging with this project enables suppliers to leverage public funding through the EV Pavement Channels Grant and showcase their capabilities to Shropshire Council, potentially leading to further business opportunities within the emerging electric vehicle charging infrastructure sector. This initiative also aligns with broader efforts to improve local electric vehicle infrastructures, offering potential growth for firms involved in sustainable and smart city solutions.
