Notice Description
Final Lifetime Procurement of Mecon Magnetic Flow Meters (mag-flux probes). For further details please refer to transparency notice UK-1286.
Procurement Information
Mecon GmbH is the original equipment manufacturer and Icenta is the sole supplier of the discontinued magnetic flowmeters, for which no compatible, like-for-like alternative exists without extensive redesign and nuclear safety requalification. These instruments are required for operation of the facility through its extended life to 2057. Mecon has confirmed a unique, time-limited opportunity to restart production for a final run, including an approved design improvement that removes a known failure mode and improves reliability. A direct award is therefore justified to Icenta (the sole supplier) to secure a lifetime buy, avoid disproportionate cost, programme risk, and safety impact associated with alternative solutions, and to ensure continuity of operations to end of plant life.
