Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence procured artillery and howitzer components, and components for armoured vehicle weapon systems, including the 105mm Light Gun. The requirement covers approximately 499 items identified by NATO Stock Numbers and supplied in accordance with CSIS Manufacturer’s Part Numbers. This is a goods requirement classified under CPV 35400000, military vehicles and associated parts. The articles must meet the Ministry of Defence’s operational and strategic requirements. Babcock Land Defence Limited acted as the Ministry’s agent in managing the procurement. The named supplier, BAE Systems GCS International Limited, is based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The requirement includes the potential for further similar items to be added after award.

The procurement is complete and was awarded through a direct award as a single-source contract under the Procurement Act 2023. One lot was awarded to BAE Systems GCS International Limited on 21 July 2026. The award value is £4,000,000 excluding VAT and £4,800,000 including VAT. The contract was signed on 12 August 2026 and runs from 12 August 2026 to 11 August 2030. It is a closed framework agreement with awards made without reopening competition, and has no renewal options. Pricing is firm for the first year, with annual adjustments thereafter. Performance is measured against delivery performance, non-conforming deliveries and new-stores rejects. The direct award rationale cited the supplier’s niche expertise and specific manufacturing, testing and supply experience.

This procurement indicates sustained defence demand for specialist artillery, howitzer and armoured vehicle weapon-system components, including 105mm Light Gun parts. Suppliers seeking to compete for comparable Ministry of Defence requirements would need strong capability in manufacturing, testing and supplying highly specialised defence components, rather than general vehicle-parts distribution alone. Credibility would depend on demonstrable niche expertise, technical knowledge and relevant acquired experience, together with the ability to work from NATO Stock Numbers and CSIS Manufacturer’s Part Numbers across a substantial catalogue of items. Suppliers would also need reliable operational capacity and robust quality controls, since delivery performance, non-conforming deliveries and new-stores rejects are explicit performance measures. The direct-award route and sole-source rationale show the importance of defensible technical capability and authorised supply rights.
